New Delhi, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria PVSM AVSM VM ADC embarked on an official goodwill visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) on July 31.
CAS is visiting UAE on an invitation from Major General Ibrahim Nasser M. Al Alawi Cdr UAE Air Force and Air Defence (UAE AF & AD).
India Air Force (IAF) and UAE AF & AD have had significant professional interactions in the past few years and this visit would further strengthen the defence cooperation and Air Force level exchanges, as part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.
The Indian Air Force for the first time participated in the annual multi-nation large force employment warfare exercise, Desert Flag VI, hosted by the United Arab Emirates Air Force which began on March 3 this year.
The IAF participated with six Su-30 MKI, two C-17 and one IL-78 tanker aircraft. C-17 Globemaster provided support for induction and de-induction of the IAF contingent. The aim of the exercise was to provide operational exposure to the participating forces while training them to undertake simulated air combat operations in a controlled environment.
That apart prior to participation in multi-nation exercise, the UAE air force’s Airbus multi-role transport tanker twice refuelled the three Indian Rafale fighter jets on their non-stop eight-hour flight from Bordeaux-Merignac base in France to join the Golden Arrows Squadron in Ambala.
